Physics 1028

Professor: Tamie Poepping

Description:  Fundamental physics concepts are introduced with examples of biological and medical applications. Topics include kinematics, forces, energy, linear momentum, collisions, rotational motion, torque and angular momentum, geometric optics and microscopes.

Past exams: There doesn’t seem to be past exams. Instead, do the practice problems given by the professor and make sure you understand the APPLICATIONS and WHEN TO USE each formula that’s given.  

Our Feedback:​​​

  • Perhaps when those topics are being taught, pay extra attention and make sure you understand what the professor is teaching

  • The textbook has great practice questions (use slader for solutions! It’s free)

  • Labs are quite straightforward but may be confusing at times - try to ask your TA for help if needed, they’re usually quite willing to help 

  • Understanding the formulas isn’t enough → you need to be able to apply them, rearrange them to solve for an unknown, as well as understand the THEORY behind each physics concept! There are many theory-based/non-calculation questions on the exams ​

Physics 1029

Professor: Eugene Wong

Description:  Fundamental physics concepts are introduced with an emphasis on applications in biological processes. Topics include oscillations and waves, fluid statics and dynamics, and electricity and magnetism.

  • Refer to physics 1028

  • Professor Wong has kindly provided a list of “difficult” topics that students in this past year had indicated. 

    • The most difficult topics that they found included: magnetism, rotational motion, simple harmonic motion (oscillations), and electricity

Physics 1301

Professor: Silvia Mittler and Lyudmila Goncharova

Description:  Topics include kinematics, force and motion, energy, linear momentum, rotation, torque and angular momentum, gravitation, and heat. This is a calculus-based laboratory course for students intending to pursue further studies in science.

Our Feedback:​​

  • This course is typically recommended for students with a strong background in physics from grade 12. Although there are students who excelled without doing high school physics, it is generally more common for them to take physics 1028

  • Do lots of practice problems and keep up with the material
